Original music for TV includes adapting his score for The Car Man and writing the songs for Tipping the Velvet which gained Terry a BAFTA nomination. Reese Witherspoon as Becky Sharp, features Terry's dance music and he wrote music for live performance with Man Ray's 1927 silent film Les Mystères du Château de Dé. In 1998 he also conducted some of Stephen Warbeck's Academy Award winning music for Shakespeare in Love. He conducted Renée Fleming in Verdi and Bellini for the film version ofĬalista Flockhart. In the recording studio Terry has conducted or orchestrated the music for about 70 feature films. He is an associate artist of Matthew Bourne's company New Adventures and has written 5 of Matthew's dance scores: The Car Man (Evening Standard Award for Best Musical), Play Without Words (Olivier Award forMatthew and Terry for Best Entertainment), Edward Scissorhands (New York Drama Desk Award: Unique Theatrical Experience) Dorian Gray and Lord of the Flies. He has written 2 musicals: The Birds, commissioned by the Istanbul City Theatre, which ran for 4 years, and Kes! The Musical for the Octagon Theatre, Bolton and revived at York's Theatre Royal. Terry also wrote songs for the RSC's production of Alice in Wonderland. He has also composed for a large number of Shakespeare productions at the RSC and Regent's Park's Open Air Theatre. Many other compositions for theatre include The Winter's Tale at the Crucible, Sheffield, The Way of the World, for Chichester's Festival Theatre, Arthur and George, for Birmigham Rep, Dealer's Choice at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Trafalgar Studios, Days of Wine and Roses at the Donmar Warehouse, Richard Bean's Honeymoon Suite at the Royal Court, Sexual Perversity in Chicago at the Comedy Theatre with Matthew Perry and Minnie Driver, The York Realist by Peter Gill at the Royal Court and Strand Theatres and Speed-the-Plow at the Duke of Yorks Theatre. He also composed for the National's The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, developing the vocal routines with Jane Horrocks and Sam Mendes. Amongst his compositions for the National Theatre are The Voysey Inheritance, Edmond, Scenes From the Big Picture, Luther, The Misanthrope, Neaptide, The Festival of New Plays, Antigone and Tales From Hollywood. He first worked there as co-orchestrator of the multi-award winning Guys and Dolls with its remarkable cast including Bob Hoskins, Julia McKenzie, Ian Charleson, Julie Covington and Imelda Staunton This was followed by 12 years of National Theatre productions with many leading actors and directors.
